The fight develops, since we have said, in the
loneliness of the sea, surrounded with water and with fish that do not sting,
but he finds in everything the nobility, dignity and beauty of a full life, in
which each one gains that one for what it fights.
He does not believe that it could be defeated
"The man is not done for the defeat. A man can be destroyed, but not
defeated ", because before it will be destroyed: the fight, as that of a
Greek hero against his tragic destination, gives moral height to the personage,
enclosedly beauty; it fights against the fish, his "brother", in whom
he finds also nobility and dignity, because it fights to survive, expecting to
obtain a victory that the life was denying to him till then; but it fights
against the sharks even knowing that nothing will achieve, that only there will
stay the testimony of which it had achieved it; it fights in spite of the pain
and the desperation, because it knows that only it is the life.
